Individual Tickets or Eurorail Pass: Paris to Venice to Rome?

Hi,
It's only two days of train trips, so I'm not certain a Eurrail pass would be worth it. Also, I'm not certain if the Eurrail pass would even work given the new privately-owned trains. Thoughts? Thanks!

And, of course, the only way you will know is to your homework - compare p2p against the cost of the pass and remember to add in to the pass the premium or seat reservation charge. Only then will you know.

I've been researching the 3 new trains in France and Italy. The new Thello Paris/Milan/Venice night train as well as the new Italo trains in Italy do not accept the Eurail pass. It does work on the new day train from Paris to Milan Porta Garibaldi. This train does not go to Venice. You need to get to Milan Centrale to pick up the train to Venice. Plus, the supplemental fees in addition to the cost of the pass are really high ($80). Also, you must have France on your pass and, the seats are limited for passholders. I'm afraid these new trains don't like the Eurail pass. At least for now. This could change.

Thanks Larry. That's what I was afraid of with the new trains.
$80? Phew. Maybe it's time to just fly a cheap airlines to get out of France, at least. But I will the P2P as you and Frank have suggested.

If you want to take the new Thello direct night train from Paris to Venice, book ASAP (up to four months allowed) on the Thello site (only in French) to get the lowest fare. The Trenitalia site has an English option, but for this particular train the advance booking limit is three months. To see all your airline choices for Paris-Venice, including budget airlines, go to the search engine skyscanner.com. Ryanair probably will have the cheapest fares, but Beauvais is a 90-minute bus ride from Paris and Treviso also is an outlying airport. IMO, flying easyJet from Orly to Marco Polo is a better route. If you book Venice-Rome ASAP (up to four months allowed) on the Trenitalia site, you can get a Mini fare as low as €9.00. The number of seats at that price is very limited. As the cheapest seats are sold, the Mini fare goes up in 10-euro increments. The standard 2nd class fare is €76.00.
