In Italy now.....CANNOT figure out the bus system

I am currently in Siena Italy which is in the Tuscany area. I have five weekends in Italy and I wanted to use each weekend to see different cities. I know the travel times between Siena and Milan, Rome, Verona and Venice but I have no clue how to actually get to those cities by bus as I understad the trains are super expensive. I am also having trouble reading the bus schedule to go back. Any advice??

Siena to Rome via train is 22.80 euros, 2nd class; Bus is about the same. You can research your trips here: http://www.sena.it/. Siena to Venice is about 44 euros via train, 30E via bus according to the SENA site.

Find a local TI. There will be one in Siena. They will be very helpful in explaining local buses. Don't know who told you trains in Italy were super expensive. The Italian rail system is probably the cheapest in all of western Europe. You have time to make use of the mini fare which can be a significant savings.

Polina, I don't believe it's accurate to say that all trains are "super expensive". The ES/AV "premium" trains can be a bit pricey, but if you purchase advance tickets using the "Mini" fare, the cost is reasonable. The Regionale trains are usually VERY cheap. For the longer routes you'll be travelling (Siena / Venice, Siena / Verona), travel by train would be a better option in order to minimize the travel times. Using fast trains for at least part of the journey would be a good idea. If you can get the discounted fares, it probably won't be much more expensive than the Bus. Use the Trenitalia or Sena websites to weigh the options between travel time and price. Cheers!
