I have put this up on the Scotland forum but will place it here for folk who might miss it.

If visiting Scotland especially the east side of the country over the next month then Bad news. The Forth Road Bridge is closed, this is a major problem for travellers in the east of the country .If you are visiting the area and are hoping to travel a bit be aware that there will be major traffic delays as well as huge diversions . No idea how buses will get on but trains will still be running but are likely to be very busy especially on routes to and from Edinburgh and the Fife area.
My reply on the Scotland Forum was:=
Uncle Gus has got it.
This seems like a story that will only get much worse for a long time.
First they were talking about one crack, and closed for a few days. Then they said that some cables at the top had snapped and it would be until after Christmas. Then they said they had had to take everybody working on the bridge off the bridge and it could be many months.
The Scottish government have said that they are considering a ferry, they want to strengthen the trains going over the rail bridge to carry some of the load, and they want to put in park-and-rides.
What I want to know is what is happening to all the road freight?
And with yet another named storm arriving tonight, welcome to Desmond.
