If You Had Only One Day....

Happy new year!
I will embark on an early June RS My way Tour (Alpine Europe) beginning in Salzburg (Austria) oops- now edited, thank you! Always before with tours, I have planned for several days arrival before the tour's departure date.
This trip, due to time constraints not of my choosing, I don't have that long an option. I have to use Boston's airport and an evening departure from the US, so early-mid- afternoon arrival to somewhere in Europe (with the one stops of my myriad searches).
Day 1 will be arrival/exhaustion, but could do some walking near the hotel.
Full day in______
Early morning flight to Austria to get to tour hotel.
The quickest option is through Reykyavik or Copenhagen and straight on to Salzburg- but lucky me, I've been to both cities. I would prefer either of those connections to Frankfurt - also a choice for connection- or Amsterdam ( but been there, too).
I really want to visit Berlin and it can be physically accomplished as sketched out above but I fear I would short change a dream destination.
Lisbon is also a connection.
My original plan was train to the tour start from Paris upon arrival (have also been there) - with an overnight along the way in Reims - but it looks like 4-5 trains of several hours. I like trains, but...
I would welcome suggestions! I most enjoy history and art ( when not hiking) museums, not a big fan of Baroque architecture, and also have a lot of dietary restrictions so sampling iconic food isn't high on the list.
Thank you!

Doesn't the My Way Alpine tour begin in Salzburg? Not Strasbourg, which is in France. If so, then it makes most sense to fly into Munich, then take the short train into Salzburg.

The easiest plan would be to fly to Munich, stay the night near the train station and walk around a bit, then take the train to Salzburg the next morning (easy trip). Fly home from Geneva. I did a quick dummy search on June tour dates and the TAP airlines one stop options via Lisbon have quite decent layover times and a good midday departure time from Geneva. One jetlagged afternoon in Berlin is a discredit to Berlin, save that for another trip.

For me I see this choice as a matter of desperation, ie, how desperate are you to see Berlin since you "'really want to visit Berlin.?" or the other places you've visited already, regardless of jetlag or no jetlag?

That full day I would spend in Berlin (I am familiar with places in Berlin and don't get jetlag anyway ). Coming from the west coast, I take the late afternoon departure from SFO anyway, basically it's an overnight non-stop flight.

We were in Berlin a year and a half ago.

We suggest Munich--one of our favorite big cities. And the transfer to Salzburg will be easy peazy.

I would want to fly somewhere that is a train ride from Salzburg. There are too many flight changes, delays, and cancellations these days to make a one day stay in a remote location worthwhile. I think your best options are Munich or Vienna.

Another vote for Munich. With one day you could visit a palace or an art museum or take a walking tour, possibly two of these depending on your stamina. Lufthansa has a nonstop from Boston.

What helpful responses, thank you! I agree about being no farther than at most a short train ride away from the tour's early evening start. It's always a challenge to rein in the temptation to try to see more than I would within the US, especially when getting planes involved!
I had considered Vienna and hadn't considered Munich- I will now research those sensible options and really appreciate the suggestions!
