Icelandair to either Milan or Bologna

My wife and I are considering Icelandair for our flight to Bologna this summer. This flight involves two plane changes ... from Seattle to Reykjavik, then Reykjavik to Copenhagen, finally Copenhagen to Bologna. The only difference from a Milan flight is that the Milan flight goes from Copenhagen to Milan rather than Bologna.

Reading the most recent reviews of Icelandair, most of the reviews lately have been bad. Cramped, cattle cars, late, etc. Could you tell me your recent experience with Icelandair? In economy, are the seats comfortable ... is there reasonable leg room compared to a US carrier's economy? We're going to check at least one or two bags since we're going on a cruise ... any problems with this airline and baggage?

Thanks.

Does this complicated itinerary save you money? Or perhaps you want a stop-over in Iceland (which certainly could be interesting.) Out of Seattle you have several one-stops to Bologna. Using www.itasoftware.com I found tickets for June that were both faster and cheaper than what I saw on the Icelandair site, but I didn't know your dates which could affect the fares.

I thought the seats were comfortable (I am 5'6") and my flights were all on time. Great entertainment system too. Just bring your own food, cause the food isn't free. I liked that I could check 2 bags too, as I was going to the US and did a lot of shopping. Most US carriers are down to 1 checked bag now. The transfer in Iceland was quick, though I was concerned about the 40-50 min. time. The airport is small, quick and efficient. For me, the biggest plus is the short flight from Seattle to Iceland. Having a 7 hour trans-Atlantic flight is wonderful. Much better than sitting on a plane for 10-12 hours and this is what sold me on Iceland Air.

I didn't have any problems with Iceland Air. Some people are caught by surprised that in normal economy there isn't any free food so I just bought a sandwich in SeaTac Airport. I am 6'2" and I didn't have any extra issues compared to any other airline. They also had free entertainment so I was happy. If this trip is affordable and you don't mind the two connections I personally don't see a problem. I know Iceland Air has been getting some bad reviews (even before I flew with them I heard bad feedback) but I didn't experience anything negative.

We flew Iceland Air from Seattle two years ago and will fly them again this summer. I though the economy seats were comparable to those of a US carrier. Our layovers were short (under an hour each) and we did not have any problems with delays or missing bags. Food isn't free, but we brought our own sandwiches and snacks. Cheers!

My only complaint about icelandair right now is that their pilots are on strike and I'm stuck in Keflavik instead of going to London right now.
