I received an email from Icelandair this morning that they will be starting seasonal service from Dulles Airport in May of 2011. Icelandair has wonderful connections to places all over EUrope, and Reykjavik is an easy airport to use.

Iceland Express will start flying from ORD (Chicago) to Iceland next June.

Frank II. I flew Icelandair out of Chicago in the 70's (was it Icelandic air then?). I am glad they plan to return to ORD. Back then the airport was no more than a strip of tarmac in the tundra and a large hut with a gift shop and snack bar. High winds and horizontal snow at the end of May. Surprised I remember that so vividly and amazed it was so long ago.

Athena, it's not Icelandair that's going to fly out of Chicago. It's Iceland Express, a newer competing airline.

So excited that they are coming back to the DC area! We flew Iceland Air into Baltimore in 2007, and loved the experience. We were sad when they stopped service to our area, so it's great to hear they are back!
