Ice train covering local transit

I bought an ICE ticket from Munich Hbf to Frankfurt (main) Hbf. I am leaving from Rosenheimer Str. in Munich and going to Frankfurt/Offenbach. I thought my ICE purchase would cover local transit to/from the Hbf stations. However, my point to point destination when buying the ticket was the train station in Munich and Frankfurt. Did I make a mistake by not including the entire trip when purchasing my ICE ticket? Can I use local transit with my ICE ticket or must I buy additional tickets?

A city ticket for Frankfurt (Main) might not (?) include the Stadtgebiet Offenbach. However, if your ticket is a flexi-ticket and your route includes Aschaffenburg, you could get off the ICE in Aschaffenburg and take an RE50 or RE55 from there towards the Frankfurt Hbf and get off two stops early at the Offenbach Hbf.

That way would actually be faster than going all the way to Frankfurt Hbf on the ICE and then taking a local train back to Offenbach Hbf.

If it does include a +City, (any ticket except a Super Sparpreis ticket), then you can take the S-Bahn from Rosenheimer Platz to Munich Hbf any time beforehand that will allow you enough time to make your ICE. If you bought a Super Sparpreis ticket, then just buy a single ride M zone ticket. Cost is 3.70 EUR.

It doesn't. And I agree that if the final destination is Offenbach, it would have been better to buy a ticket to Offenbach via Aschaffenburg. But a city ticket should cover the trip from Rosenheimer Straße.

If you did buy a Super Sparpreis ticket, even several months in advance the Sparpreis ticket costs 4 EUR more. So buying your own MVV ticket saves you 0.30 EUR.

Yes, simply specifying Munich Rosenheimer Platz as your departure station would have given you a free ride to the Hbf on the S-Bahn. Oh well.

When buying train tickets (especially in the DACH area) you should always buy a ticket from the actual station you will start your trip to the actual station you will end it. Do not make any a priori assumptions about the best route. And do not treat it like air travel where you separate the long distance and the local sectors and solve each separately.

Sorry for the delay. It took so time before I could wrap my head around this. I appreciate your help. I thought I worked out my how-to directions. I made 2 mistakes. First-I used the train stations as my destination (as someone mentioned) as if I was flying into air terminals. Second-I uncharacteristically did not look at a map. Good news I did buy my ICE tickets that included +city, so getting to Munich Hbf will not be a problem. But is getting to the hotel in Frankfurt outside the +city?

Here’s my original directions: Hilton Munich City, Take S1-S8 from Rosenheimer Platz to München Hbf. From München to Frankfurt Main, take ICE 720. Going to SHERATON OFFENBACH HOTEL (Berliner Strasse 111, Frankfurt/Offenbach) from Frankfurt Hbf tief, take S8/9 towards Hanau Hbf to Offenbach Main Marktplatz (8 stops).

I pulled up my train’s route. Ice 720 has three inter-route stops: Nürnberg Hbf, Würzburg Hbf, Aschaffenburg Hbf. Is getting off and switching to RE as mentioned a better option then contining to Frankfurt? We will have suitcases

According the DB journey planner: Travel to Frankfurt Hbf and take the S8 or S9 to Offenbach Marktplatz. Looks like about 1/4 mile walk along Berliner Strasse to the Sheraton, or you could take the #102 bus one stop. This is all covered by the +city ticket.

Getting off at Aschaffenburg then taking a regional train to Hanau, then the S8/9 to Marktplatz is one extra train change with little benefit.

In Munich, the S-Bahn station is under the street in front of the Hilton Munich City. Trains to Hbf are very frequent (like every 3 minutes). Also included with the +city ticket.
