IC, EXT, etc on train boards

IC means intercity. Anybody know what EXT means? Thank you!

What country?

Germany has a lot of private companies (BOB, ALX, RailJet, etc) running regional trains under their privatization policy, but I have never seen EXT.

The one I was checking is Bruges to Brussels. Thanks!

The Belgian Rail (SNCB) website, www.b-rail.be, says nothing about any train line called EXT, but they do have a "contact" page; maybe you should write and ask.

Where did you see it, and from where to where does it go? I remember in 1987 I was on business in Brussels, and one of my coworkers, and his wife, went to Brugges for the afternoon on the train, but when I looked on the Germany Rail website, many of the connections were by, or included buses. Maybe EXT is a bus company.

I saw this on the actual train status board in the Bruges station. Every other train back to Brussels, is labeled EXT, "instead of IC." Does anyone know if it means "local" and makes a lot of stops in between the two cities?
