I am looking to travel to Portugal in May from Boston and Iberia has a great deal with a short flight. But I’ve never flown them and am a bit worried. Any feedback?
I’ve flown Iberia a number of times and always had very good experiences. On time, easy connections, normal crappy airline food, clean cabin and toilets. Wouldn’t hesitate flying with them.
I had tickets this past April to fly with Iberia to Barcelona direct from Boston. I didn’t find out they cancelled our flight until I was 20 min from Boston when I checked. I didnt receive any notification from them.
There was no one at the ticket counter when we arrived at the airport. I called Iberia and found out they rebooked us with a stopover at JFK for 3 hours but not until the next day. This was completely unacceptable. So I asked them to rebook the 3 of us on British airways. Supposedly they did. When I got to the British airways counter I found out they only rebooked my ticket. My husband and daughter were not rebooked. It took 3 hours and 3 phone calls to get us all on the same flight to London but 1 of us was on a different flight to Barcelona. It all worked out in the end as British airways rebooked my husband for the same flight once we got to London.
In addition, I received compensation from Iberia after I requested it.
I did fly Iberia back to Boston from Madrid on the return and it was fine.
I'd have no concerns about safety on Iberia, but in the last few years we've had at least two (maybe three or four) very concerning complaints on this forum about problems with Iberia credit. Multiple customers reported having received credits from Iberia for cancelled flights but then discovering the credits had been co-opted by others and already used. It seemed clear there was an insider involved. The airline disavowed responsibility. One of the victims eventually did get his credit restored by contacting a specific person at the top of the company, but I've heard nothing about a real solution to the problem. I fear the bad actor is still working for Iberia, with access to information about customer credits. If something goes wrong with a planned flight, I'd be worried the credit would disappear before I could use it.
Even though it was a big hassle to get my cancelled flight rebooked with Iberia , they did not issue me a flight credit. They directly deposited funds into my checking account in a prompt fashion. Maybe that was their solution to the disappearing flight credits mentioned in the above post.
That's obviously a much better solution. I'm glad to hear they do that, on at least some occasions.
