Cannot believe my good luck as Delta is not always easy to deal with. Got a tic with 60 thousand miles for May 2011 trip-into Paris and out of Zurich. Transferred remaining 15 thou miles to husband and with his 30 thousand pts he bought enough to get his tic. Long story short, both of us will fly for around $500. We spent some time working on the days of travel as some required many more miles depending on the date. We are very happy with Delta today!
Congratulations Susan! That's great! It does take flexibility, time, and patience but you did really well!
Good job Susan. I know you feel good about this accomplishment. I have had good luck using my Delta skymiles for the last two trips on Business Class also in May. Being flexible on dates and even destinations increases chances of getting seats with the use of minimum number of miles.
I used mine too, but had to spend 90,000 to get to/from Athens late August-September 2011. I've been checking the Delta website over the past few months and found very rare 60,000 mile options from Denver, so we decided to just clean out our Delta accounts and be glad to be done with them!
Congratulations on your good fortune with Delta. I have never had any luck with them at all over the years. I am still mourning the demise of Northwest Airlines (sadly, taken over by Delta). Every time I had the miles, they had the seats. For me, NWA was the best for redeeming miles.
Let me add to the chorus of congratulations! You've bagged the elusive Delta mileage ticket, a beast so rare that some have thought it extinct or even imaginary.
Thanks for the comments. Our total cost came to $470 which is unbelievable in this day and time. Better yet, we fly Air France going over. Never dealt with NW (living in Atlanta we are tied to Delta) but it was nice when Delta acquired all those jumbo jets from NW. Now we can start planning our exciting trip!
I too, had a great experience with the Delta website. I was able to get 2 business class seats LAX-BCN, MAD-CDG & CDG LAX on Air France for 200,000 miles. The same route with a Delta plane was 300,000 miles. I don't know how that works but it did!
I am a milage junkie. I live near EWR so we are tied to Continental. We have found that booking for kids April break we need to look for flights we get the elusive First Class milesave booking the last week of Sept. I have lists of possible trips and search for the flight and depending what we find that is where we go. Next April we are straying away from Europe and going to Machu Picchu - first class RT for 70,000 miles each!! Congrats on the good luck with Delta.
We cashed in a lifetime of Delta miles for one way tickets from Japan to Columbus, OH...an extraordinarily expensive ticket. We had to swap days a bit, but the real saver that brought it within our range was adding a stop in Honolulu for several days. Twist my arm! Certainly not a mile mayven, but after futile days, I thought, " Let's see..nothing with the airlines makes sense, what improbabilities could be most possible? "
