I got the nicest card from Alaska Airlines.

I recently flew Alaska Airlines RT from MSP to SEA. It was my first flight with Alaska Airlines, and I had a very good experience. It was a great flight; on time; the price was very reasonable; the plane was spacious and clean, and the flight attendants were way over the top in friendliness and helpfulness. I really enjoyed my flight with them and left them a nice review when they emailed me.

Anyway, today in the mail I got a handwritten card from Katrina at Alaska Airlines that said "Welcome aboard Alaska Airlines, we're excited to have you! Sincerely, Katrina Monica". And it was definitely handwritten. I know the difference between regular handwriting and printing that looks like handwriting. The envelope was even hand-addressed! 😊

I thought it was very nice, and I was pleased that a large company would take the time to send a handwritten card to a new customer. That just doesn't happen anymore. I'm impressed, and I will definitely fly them again.

Alaska Airlines was our first choice option when we lived in Seattle to fly to Hawaii or Boston. Excellent airline & great customer service.

Just a fun extra story: when I was an engineering project manager focused on process improvements, i.e. Six Sigma, Lean, the person at several of the Seattle companies with the same role would meet once/month at a company site to showcase their improvements. One time it was at Alaska Airlines, so we met at the airport & went in some of the rooms you see on the top floor of the airport. One of the improvements took us out the security doors onto the pavement where an Alaska plane would be arriving, and I got the inside scoop seeing everything that happens & the processes that travelers see & don’t see before & as your plane arrives to the point that plane departs.

We had the major Seattle companies represented, so I also had the chance to go onto the floor of Boeing’s manufacturing plant in Everett, Amazon, Nordstrom, etc. My company manufactured medical ultrasound systems & AED’s. One memorable one was at the Starbucks headquarters where we went into their lab and were instructed to keep ordering drinks to run their process demonstration. : )

Now THAT is a classy company. Good for you, and good for them! Yay Alaska (they are definitely our #1 choice airline.)

Yeah, it was pretty classy. I wish more companies were like that. I do like that they’re starting to fly to Europe now. I might have to take advantage of that.

I just flew Alaska’s new nonstop home from Rome to Seattle. Great flight, but needs to make a few improvements in catering. This was only their 7th flight on this route so I am sure they will get that dialed in.

That’s wild! I had no idea Alaska did that. I have received a couple of hand-written notes - upon arrival at my Delta seat in a premium cabin - and I thought those were nice, but never anything in the mail!

Carol, that's good to know about the Rome flight. I have enough points with them since I got their credit card that I could probably book a European trip with them. As soon as I figure out where I'm going to next year! 😂

What a nice gesture. I would be happy to get a handwritten note too.
Delta is our main airline and years ago I had more status when I had a different job that involved more travel, but my husband is still pretty high status as he travels a lot for work. Last year, we were traveling as a family and ended up on a flight segment with plane with 2 x 3 x 2 configuration. Technically, my seat was 2 aisles behind the other 2 with him and kid. We traded so I sat with kid.
Then came the flight attendant who looked twice at me before asking about Mr. Smith. I said my husband is 2 rows down on XXB. Before she went to thank him for his loyalty, she quickly searched for who was assigned to that other seat and came up with my name. We have different last names so she asked if I was Ms. Jones. And proceeded to say "Thank you Ms. Jones for flying with Delta. I see you have been with us for many years, we appreciate your loyalty". Then she moved further down to talk to my husband.

At least she made an effort to find my name and also thank me, even though I am only silver status now.

Mardee--That was very nice! From what you told me though, I can see why she did it. You went beyond what most people would have done. I am assuming this note was from a flight attendant? At any rate, yes, Alaska is a great airline!

mikliz, you know, I'm not sure if it's from the flight attendant or not. I suppose it could be and probably is, now that I think about it. When I first got it, I thought that's what it was, and then I guess just because of the language, "Welcome aboard, we are so glad to have you..." that it was from the airlines, but I wonder if that's what it was, now that you mention it. That makes more sense. I helped them out, and I know they knew who I was because they had my seat number, and they did give me the 3,000 points.

Well, either way, it was extremely nice of them, and I'm just thrilled that they took the time to do that. I will definitely continue to patronize a business that treats their customers like this.

Mardee--I was thinking the same thoughts as you. Either way, yes, they are great!
