I am checking my flights TOO often!

I have been reading the many recent recommendations to check flights often for changes. I confess I am taking this to extremes. I am checking my flights every day. I am using my FlyDelta app on my phone. I know any changes about a day before I get the notification email. I book tickets early, so there have been some minor, timing changes. I did take advantage of a seat upgrade that was down about 70% in cost. The other thing that I am obsessively following is how many seats are unsold on the plane. I am a bit paranoid they will cancel the flight if not enough tickets are sold. This is a flight from ATL to MUC in May.

Does anyone know if low passenger numbers lead to a flight cancellation? I guess it depends too on if they will need the plane in Munich for other flights as well.

Anyways, I am driving myself crazy checking something I can't do anything about.

If it makes you feel any better, I check my flights all the time too. Just one of my fun travel pastimes:)

Hahahahaha!

Good advice!
I probably won't listen. But I guess this is a better addiction than chocolate!

Did someone say chocolate- European chocolate, perhaps?

Those unoccupied seats are going to basic economy.
The flight is full.
Now you can delete the app until one week before.

Relax. Planes aren't canceled because one leg is light.

Planes are scheduled well in advance for numerous routes. Don't forget, that plane taking you to Europe is scheduled to take other passengers back to the USA. Then the plane is scheduled to be somewhere else for a flight after that. And then, it has to be scheduled in such a way so regular maintenance can be done at required intervals.

Regular maintenance, like checking fluid levels, is done every two days. Every 100 flight hours, the plane must have a more thorough inspection. Not all airports can do this for particular airlines. So the plane needs to be kept to its scheduled.

I once flew on a 747 with 12 passengers. The plane was needed at our destination so it flew

Edited: I removed my satirical comment about some people's Flight Aware beliefs because some missed the LOL and took it seriously.

Have you seen the new flight countdown widget on United? It will put a window on your phone's home screen that shows days left until your flight. Its great fun for those of us who obsessively check our upcoming flights. You are not alone, @vandrabrud. 85 days til Paris for me!

On the United app pull up your flight details page and scroll down a bit. There will be a link with info about how to add widget to your home screen. Say what you want about United...I love their technology.

Happy travels, all....

EDITED TO ADD: Just read Frank II's comment that if your flight is not flying now it won't be in the future. Not necessarily true. My flight, UA990 SFO to CDG, is currently not flying. It is set to resume on March 27 as spring travel picks up. You bet I will be checking that flight's status that day! Check out website routeaware.com. It covers news about airline route changes.

Sigh....well, I hadn't checked since I booked 2 weeks ago. Just checked, minor time changes for my international leg but everything else looks good. I did have time to put in my one-time flight notifications. So that's done, lol.

Now I'll add my passport etc to the Fly Delta app. That wasn't available the last flight in October. Does anyone know if that is a separate app or the regular Delta app?

50 days from flight, lol!!

I understand your checking constantly. I’m glad I did because one leg of my flight was canceled and no one bothered to notify me. They still haven’t. I purchased a refundable ticket from United, and thought I was set. Unfortunately that like that was canceled was through Air Canada booked through United site. So, when we went to make new flight arrangements everything was great until we had to book the return flight which involved that canceled leg. There was a good flight from Athens to New Jersey to Chicago. However our original flight was Athens Toronto of Chicago. Since New Jersey is more than 250 miles away from Toronto, United was not obligated to give us that flight. Instead they tried to get us to fly Athens New Jersey Toronto Chicago. How idiotic! Even though it will cost us a couple hundred dollars more, we canceled the entire flight and will just re-booking our way. Very frustrating experience and glad we spent the extra money for a refundable ticket.

Is the Fly Delta app different than the regular app? How do you check it? Do you just go to your confirmation # to see if your flight pulls up or what? How do you know it’s cancelled?

20 days, 21 hours and 48 minutes from departure. Daily Delta app check, just to remind myself that it’s happening. But - I was checking the other day and noticed that my husband’s reservation was missing his middle name/passport name. What!?! All sorted now two chats and a phone call, but that could have been ugly at check in.

JenS, do you just check your reservation? Is there another way to find out if something has changed?

Munich for other flights as well.

Using my good ol' Flight Radar 24 app, I can tell you Delta flight 130 (Atlanta to Munich) has operated every day it has been scheduled since it returned to the schedule on Dec 13. As an aside, it has landed arrived at the gate in Munich within 15 minutes of scheduled arrival time the last 31 days of operation. I don't think you have to worry about the flight being cancelled. Also... the plane used for DL 130 any given day then returns to Atlanta as DL 131.

Also... Delta (like most US airlines) loads schedule changes late Friday night, resulting in passengers seeing the changes on "schedule change Saturday" but not being able to do much about them in the app or online until Sunday. So... if you want to get your checking down to once per week, check on Sunday.

Lulu, I have the Fly Delta app on my phone (I think it’s the only app) and I’m using it to check the fine detail of each leg of our upcoming trip to Paris. We’ve had a few changes and a few glitches to our flights since we booked back in November. I was so surprised to notice that my husband’s name was incomplete as we fly Delta frequently and it’s always been correct before. I think that his middle name got “lost” in the last batch of changes? It doesn't make sense.

Anyway, you can check your trip details with the app the way you might check on the website using your confirmation number. With the app you have to dig a bit to get to the details, look for and click on the “my trips” tab at the top of the opening page and follow the red arrows. Let me know if that didn’t answer your question or if you have more.

No. Delta's app is titled "Fly Delta."

Dave,

Thanks for that! I will sleep like a baby tonight.

Lulu, I hope i didn't send you down a rabbit hole of obsessive app checking!

I checked our late March BA flights yesterday morning and spotted an upgrade to the pointy end on the outbound leg for not much more than I already paid for Premium Economy. So I locked it in.

A YouTube video profiling BA Business Class showed a picture of the wine list. It was titled 'BA Business Class Wine Cellar'. I'm picturing a musty dark barrel vaulted stony wine cellar somewhere down around the luggage hold.
