We are going to Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Germany and Belgium in September, 2012. Around the 17th of September we would like to leave Budapest for Prague via Bratislava. On the leg between Budapest and Bratislava we would like to take the hydrofoil (or catamaran). I am able to find information on river travel between Budapest and Vienna but nothing indicating the ability to disembark in Bratislava or the cost. Would you be able to direct me to an appropriate website for Budapest/Bratislava? Thank you. Peter MacRae
Few years ago we took hydrofoil from Budapest to Vienna. It stopped in Bratislava. We did not book ahead, just asked in hotel in Budapest, they directed us where to go and it was no problem. If I remember correctly the ticket was 50 Euro. I googled it and found these two websites which I believe could be helpful: http://www.bratislavahotels.com/hydrofoil-vienna-budapest http://www.traveltohungary.com/english/sales/sales.php?id=2
One reason to consider not booking ahead is the possibility that the river may be too low. When I was in Bratislava in September 2011, we planned on taking the hydrofoil from Bratislava to Vienna, but the river was too low for the boat and we were unable to (and therefore took a train. If you do that - there is a "tourist" ticket that provides round trip between Bratislava and Vienna for one day plus all public transportation in Vienna for 14 euro)
