Hurray for last-minute award tickets!

40,000 points and $170 for a short notice week in Madrid!

I have the week after next free and didn't feel motivated for any of the domestic options I was considering, all of which were costly. Flights to Europe are, unsurprisingly, very expensive (but still cheaper than an AirBnB and a lobster roll on Cape Cod). I remembered that Iberia often releases seats to awards close in, and often for good deals, so I took a look.

Six days on the ground. Tickets for Kings of Convenience, Rufus Wainwright, and Kraftwerk have been booked. I'll book for the new Museum of Royal Collections when I'm there.

I just booked 40,000 point trip (+ $58.00) on an AA return flight from the Midwest to Milan for March (Spring break time). I know it's not peak travel season, but cheaper than a trip to Florida!

A great deal indeed for Milan! I was there in March of this year and I thought the time of year was perfect.

Congrats! I got a great deal with Delta skymiles for New Zealand a couple months ago. I feel like I'm hearing more and more deals of late. Tickets with dollars are still pricey, but the airlines are doing deals on award travel. Can we hope that airlines are trying to compete a bit on loyalty travel?

Sounds good to me. I am taking it that that is 40k miles round trip? Probably as cheap in miles used as you will ever get for North America to Europe.
Me, 68k RT to Tokyo. All good.
I am not one to be able to get all those miles or points people seem to acquire to go first class.

Treemoss, yes. 40k round trip. I was tempted by Premium Economy for 70k r/t, but cheaped out.

Honestly, I'm a little surprised to see posts about good deals with miles on US airlines—for the most part, their awards are no longer on "charts", but variable, and pegged to the cash price. Delta has become particularly infamous for the poor value of their redemptions. But I'm happy to hear about the deals y'all have found!

Carol- I'll think of you when I stick my head in a freezer in Madrid!
