Huh? Stuttgart to Strasbourg???

I must be reading this wrong-I hope! Train travel between these from 8-14 hrs? Can't be.

Where are you reading that? Are you using the German Rail (Bahn) website? Do you possibly have somewhere still specified in the "via"? The Bahn shows a TGV, #9576, leaving Stuttgart at 8:54, arriving in Strasbourg at 10:13 (1h17m) with only one stop, in Karlsruhe. There's a similar connection at 12:54. Even with all regional transport, it's still less than 4 hours. Last summer, there was reconstruction on the railroad bridge over the Rhein to Kehl. Regional traffic was being bused from Kehl into Strasbourg. The TGV traffic was going across the river at Karlsruhe and through the Alsace to Strasbourg. It took a little longer, but not 14 hours. Update: OK, Pamela, we both agree that it doesn't take 8 to 14 hours, but I wish Joanne would let us know how she got that "information". It might be useful to us to know what websites to avoid, or how to avoid getting that erroneous information on websites we use.

Yep, I took that trip 20 plus years ago - pre TGV - and as Lee states it takes less than 4 hours and indeed you go through Karlsruhe. I remember it well as the Strasbourg weekend was very memorable what with Maria Antoinette, weinstubes and all the Algerian male students. ; ) Pam

Verify the site you are looking at. Certainly if you are on RailEurope, you may only be getting very limited connections. Another issue to consider is the time of departure. If you pick a time late in the day, the connection may assume an overnight stay someplace. Go to Bahn.de, search, picking a time earlier in the day, and you will get an accurate time.
