how to travel from Barcelona to Turin

My husband and I and our 8 year old will be traveling from Barcelona to Turin at the end of August 2013. We had hoped to take a night train (especially my 8 year old :) but I'm struggling to find reliable info about when the trains go and the costs. One site said there was an overnight train but the service stopped as of Dec. 2012. I got the impression from one site that it would be ~ 136 Euros per person. We will likely fly if that is the case but I wanted to avoid the whole weighing the luggage saga. I'd appreciate any info about a train you could provide or which airline you'd recommend. J.

Hi J. This is a very long ride long train trip with changes / no direct trains. Good idea to look into flying. Enjoy your trip!

Night trains from Barcelona to Milano and Genève were cancelled this January. On the other hand, there is now a daytime high(er) speed train to France, but it would still be cumbersome to reach Torino. It is better just to take a flight.

Vueling offers a fare of just over $70 US for weekday flights, 90 minutes long departing mid-morning. That includes one checked bag. http://www.vueling.com/en/ The current schedule shows a flight five days a week. The Sunday flight is cheaper but leaves very early in the morning. The airline is no-frills but efficient. Iberia also has a non-stop on the route. Buy as soon as possible to get the lowest rate.
