I see that a number of you mention doing this - we will be flying on United in August - from San Francisco to Chicago and then on to Paris. Is there a place we can go online to check as to whether this flight tends to be on time and if there are any cancellations?
How about the United website?
You can also try flightstats.com. You type in the airlines and flight number and they'll display information. I used this website to see how the Continental flight I'll be taking to Italy was doing during last week's volcano drama. For example, I saw that on some days the flights were delayed between 30 minutes to 2 hours and that the flight took an additional 2 hours enroute as the pilots flew around the ash cloud. Pretty interesting.
On Delta I go to Delta.com and select Flight Status. This gives you a google map with the flight. I found this flight flies right over my childhood hometown and my current hometown! That flightstatus website has lots. Do note, if this is an overnight flight, ask for yesterdays as that is when the flight started.
Thanks so much for your responses. Helps me to know that flights are leaving on time and arriving during these difficult "ash" times. Seems as if it can change from day-to-day but this is it for now.
I've been tracking my flights on the Lufthansa website for about three weeks. So far, I would have missed the connection from Frankfurt to Venice twice. But overall, the flights seem to be running fairly smoothly, and there are several more flights to Venice each day. Doing this has reassured me, but now it's just more of a countdown exercise - every morning I check the results, drop in on Rick Steves' Helpline and it's one day closer to our departure!
I think the airline's website is your best choice to look up this information.
Now back to work...
flightstats.com or flightracker.com or just go to the web site. Swiss and Lufthansa have good updates about their flights and airspace - so id check your AirFrance site as well.
