How do I make a rail reservation, how much is the cost, and how far in advance must they be made? (I am taking the train from prague to vienna on friday may 16). THANKS!!!

The Bahn website shows 7 train connections leaving Prague from 8 AM until 4 PM, and an 8th shortly after 4 PM. Surely if you book in Prague the day before you'll find an available seat on one of them, probably on any of them. Reservation in Prague will probably cost €3-€4.
If you go to RailEurope, they only show one connection in the same time frame. Reservations on that train, through them, will cost you $12 (~€7,50)

If you don't have a railpass and actually need to buy a ticket, not just a reservation, then call Austrian Rail NOW to book over the phone. You may still be able to get a SparSchiene fare of 29€. Dial 011 (US international access code) + 43 (country code for Austria) + (0)5-1717. Omit the zero in parentheses. It is only used for calls originating in Austria.
