how to get to prague

hello
my husband and i are planning to visit europe next october.
our tentative schedule will be buenos aires, london, paris, brugge, prague, salzburg, venecia, civitalupparela (husband's family, in italy),florence, monaco, seville, cordoba, oencia (my family, spain),and madrid to buenos aires.
the thing is that we are having a hard time finding a good way to connect prague from any of this cities.
we cant afford to take a major airline's plane, so...
what's your suggestion?

hi steve
i found something on "wizzair" from brussels to prague... is it reliable?
skyscanner shows too expensive choices (nearly 400 euro? impossible!), so i went to the site you recommended for trains...
well, any combination says "Unknown tariff abroad" or "Fares not available"....

euraid seems to be updating the site... starting right from the railpasses page :(

well... this is not easy.

marina,

Yes, Wizzair is a reputable budget airline. Be aware that it uses Brussels South Charleroi airport (CRL) rather than the main Brussels airport (BRU).

Brugge to Praha by train is going to be about 12 hrs, but it doesn't have to be that expensive.

German Rail sells Europa-Spezial tickets from Brussels to Nürnberg for as low as €39 pP. You still have to get to Brussels from Bruges, because the Bahn does not include legs entirely outside of Germany. Then, from Nürnberg, you can get another Europa-Spezial ticket for €19 on the non-stop bus from Nürnberg to Prague.

These tickets require advance purchase, well in advance to get the best fares, and have only limited refundability, but isn't that the way with airfares?

There are other combinations, but I think that is the lowest cost way with day trains.

Prague to Salzburg is an all day affair. South on the train, a quick transfer (one minutes, but they know you are coming and wait), and another (without a train platform; jump to the gravel and carry your stuff to the next train). No food, so take some, and water. It isn't any faster going round about (to Nurnburg on the daily express train, then to Salzburg) but the trains will be more comfortable. The scenery is somewhat repetetive rolling farmland.

For Prague to Salzburg, on your way to Prague, probably in Nürnberg, buy a €33 Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket from an automat for the day you are going to travel to Salzburg. This is valid for regional train travel all day after 9 AM. In Prague, buy a ticket to Pilsen (Plzen) for about €5,70 pP. Take the train to Munich via Furth im Wald. It goes through Pilsen. The Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket is valid from there. After Furth, the train goes through Landshut. Get off in Landshut and take a train to Salzburg.

Time: less than 8 hours. Cost: less than €45 for both of you.
