I'm supposed to London tomorrow evening for my mother daughter trip (that I've spent the last year planning, so sad). Anyway, although it hasn't been cancelled yet, I'm trying to plan ahead. Does anyone know the best way to go about cancelling (and attempting to get a refund) from eurostar, sncf, and the German rail? I prebooked tickets on all those trains.
Also, the only possible time for my mom and I to travel again before I start school is this summer. Is it a terrible time to travel? I REALLY wanted to do April, but if not possible would you recommend June or July?
I'm mostly worried about prices, crowds, and waiting this long to book B&Bs.
If your Eurostar tickets are for travel in the next few days, Ill bet there are some "stranded" people who would love to have your seats. I would call Eurostar, and keep calling until you get through. Tell them you want to release your seats and get a refund. (They can likely sell them for more at this point). It wouldn't hurt to e-mail as well, in case you cannot reach them by phone.
A lot of the "non-refundable" tickets on German Rail can be canceled up to the day before travel for a €15 penalty. So cancel them ahead of time, don't wait until the day after you missed your travel. In cases where it's the Bahn's fault that you missed your appointed train, the Bahn will put you on the next available train, but this doesn't look like the Bahn's fault.
