How to get from Sorrento to Rome

After our week in Sorrento, we want to get to Rome for Rick's 7 Days in Rome Tour. Is there one train that will do it, or do we have to change to another line somewhere? Is there a better way?

There's only one train from Sorrento to Naples - the Circumvesuviana, which is essentially a commuter train. It arrives at Naple's central station where you can get a train to Rome.

Others advice is welcome, but I always go to the RR station and talk with the clerk about my travel. Often there will be alternatives which only the clerk may know about.

Or there may be recent changes in schedules. He may also know some ways to save money and time.

There are a few ways to get to Rome from Sorrento. If by train, the only train is the Circumvesuviana train to Naples. From Naples, you can take the Trenitalia train to Rome. About 3.0hrs. Or, you can take the ferry from Sorrento to Naples, walk about a mile to the Naples train station and then take the train to Rome. Finally, there is bus service from Sorrento to the Rome Tiburtina train station. I haven't taken this bus but I think it departs only twice a day from Sorrento.

You also have the option of taking the bus.
We did this a few years back. the trip took about 4 hours (same as the train, without having to transfer.

The bus was clean, not crowded. got to see quite a bit of each town. There were several stops to pick up/ let off passengers, but not long ones.

It was also pretty darn cheap! Once you arrive in Rome, you will most likely have to catch a taxi to get to your final destination - you could also use the Metro.

you might want to check into the bus schedule when you are in Sorrento - ask at your hotel, there is a ticket office on the main street, and you catch the bus in the main piazza. We left at 6AM or so...arriving before lunch in Rome.

If the bus from Sorrento is appealing to you, it arrives at the Rome Tiburtina train station. Tiburtina is the 2nd largest train station in Rome. To get to the Rome Termini station, go inside and take the Metro Line B (probably downstairs) heading to Laurentina. Rome Termini is the 4th stop from Tiburtina.
