Which is the best and cheapest way to get from Rome to the FCO (Leonardo da Vinci) airport whith a flight at 6:00AM back to the states?
train or taxi??

Train doesn't run that early, will have to be taxi or shuttle, have your hotel arrange it for you.

We had a similar situation last spring - didn't want to spend a lot of money on another night in a motel plus the high taxi fare to Fuimicino - so we stayed up late wandering in Rome the night before and took the last train (Leonardo Express) to the airport. Found a bench, tried to sleep for a few hours until it was time to board our plane. Not an ideal situation, but worth it if your looking to save a few bucks. It worked well for us.
