Plane arrives in the evening. What's the best (and safest way) to get to the Platz Hotel near Marienplatz? My first thought is the train but then we'd have to walk to the hotel. Also, not sure exactly 'which' stop to get off at, as the DeutscheBahn website just lists Marienplatz as having one stop. Is that correct? Is this stop the one by the Rats Haus?

The airport is served by two trains (S-Bahn, S1 and S8). S1 comes into town from the West and goes through town to Marienplatz (1 stop) and then on to Ostbahnhof. S8 comes into town from the East (Ostbahnhof) and goes through town, stops at Marienplatz, and on to Geltendorf. Whichever one you take from the airport, it will get you to Marienplatz about the same time, so just get on the next one. There is only one S-Bahn stop at (under) Marienplatz, and it is in front of the Neues Rathaus. If you mean the Platzl Hotel, according to the Munich metro (MVV) site, it's about a ¼ mi (6 min) walk to the hotel from Marienplatz.

I had to take a taxi from near Marienplatz area to the airport to make a very early morming flight. It was about 65 - 70 euros.
