anyone help any helpful advice on how to get from Ljubjlana, Slovenia to Kovinj, Croatia. There doesn't seem to be very bus service and it's sounds like a rental car is difficult or expensive.

David, I am assuming you mean Rovinj. Was faced with this a few years ago when we went from Piran to Rovinj, and Rovinj to Ljubljana. I had trouble finding information. What I did was email both the Rovinj and Ljubljana tourist information ..the address on the web sites. Both were very helpful. And yes there were buses, which we took, but I seem to recall they only ran in summer. hope this helps.

There's a daily 4:30 pm bus from the main bus station in Ljubljana (adjacent to train station) to Porec and Pula, but none directly to Rovinj. You can change to a local bus to Rovinj in either Porec or Pula, but Porec would make for the more direct journey. You can check the bus schedule at www.fils.hr. It's available in english.
