How to get from Lauterbrunnen to Bern to catch a 9:30 am flight

We are looking to leave Lauterbrunnen for Bern for a 9:30 am flight. We thought we would take ground transportation since we are not sure how the train would work, but it is SO expensive. Any ideas?

You can leave Lauterbrunnen at 5:34 am and change at interlaken and Thun heading to Belp where you catch a bus for the short ride to Bern Airport, arriving there at 7:41 am. The fare is 33.60 CHF without a Swiss Pass.

I would stay in Bern the night before the flight. The stress and/or expense of what you suggest is just not worth it.

Thanks Lola and Jeff! After much discussion, we did decide to spend the night in Bern and are currently looking at renting a car in Interlaken on our last day and then driving to Bern that evening and staying at the hotel. It looks like the combination of the hotel + car is about $450, but we don't have one night of hotel in Lauterbrunnen, which saves $220, so the net difference is $230, which is still about $120 more than the train, but about $110 less than a shuttle. I think it is worth it to keep the hassle out of travel.

Cecilia, I'll be travelling that same route later this year (hopefully), and will be using the train. The trip from Interlaken Ost to Bern is as short as 52-minutes (direct), which will be cheaper, quicker and more relaxing than travel by rental car. Fares start at CH$13 PP. Cheers!

Good luck. I hope that your Bern Hotel is a bit out of town. In the centre of Bern driving and parking can be "challenging". Your hotel is likely to charge quite a lot for parking. Using the train for the short run from Interlaken to Bern and on to Belp and the airport is so easy and reasonably priced. I wonder where you found such high prices?

Thanks everyone! You talked me into taking the train the night before from Interlaken to Bern and staying in Bern. We got a hotel at the airport, but there are no rooms for three people, so we had to get a double and a single. It was more expensive than the hotel in Lauterbrunnen but at least I won't be stressing about the train in the morning while trying to make a 9:30 a.m. flight. The only thing that we haven't figured out is what to do with the luggage. We wanted to take a boat tour of Lake Thun the last day before going to Bern, so it doesn't make sense to leave the luggage back in Lauterbrunnen. I'm trying to reach the folks that do the tours to see if they will store it. Does anyone have any better ideas?

There's no problem taking luggage on the lake steamers. People do it all the time. The landing stage is right behind the station in Interlaken, Interlaken West for boats on the Thunersee and Interlaken Ost for the Brienzersee (our favourite). Are you planning to do a circuit of the lake and return to Interlaken, or will you get off at Spiez or Thun?
