We are trying to get from Aix to Vence and the Matisse chapel for one day. It seems so complicated to rent a car? Rental car places seem only to be at airports. Any suggestions.

Europcar has an outlet close by the Aix train station. I imagine other companies do also.

The Matisse Chapel was gorgeous! I got there by taking the train (as a day trip) out of Nice. Be sure to check the hours because it is not always open. I walked from the bus station, and it was somewhat circuitious (but well- signed) and was maybe only half a mile. I'm not sure what your time limitations are, but- you must be a serious Matisse fan and if so, what about the museum in Nice (it was fabulous)?
