I do not think I can buy them online from the US. Can I buy them over the phone with a US CC and US address? I am looking at the city-city adult/child under 14 free type of tickets in Germany. thanks, Elaine
We bought ours online from www.deutschebahn.com before our trip to Germany. We printed the tickets from the computer.
Can you purchase train tickets from the German Train website for train travel in other countries...say Italy?
Tim,
The answer to your question is "yes" for a specific routes that are Italy-Germany or Germany-Italy, but "no" for routes solely within Italy.
If by discounted tickets you are referring to the Dauer-Spezial fares, you can purchase them online. However, that fare, €29 and up, is for every person, even a child under 15. If you want the child-under-15-free fare, you, the parent or grandparent, must be traveling on a full fare ticket.
Children under 6 are free with the Dauer-Spezial fare, but have to be listed when you buy the ticket.
we have 3 kids and 2 adults--so I was going to get 2 kids free and buy a child's ticket for the 3rd child--unless someone knows of a "better deal." We were looking for tickets from Stuttgart-Paris. thanks, Elaine
Elaine, I'm not sure how the French part of the trip is affected, but for trips entirely within Germany, as long as they are your own children under 15, any number (not just 2 per 2 adults) travel free. If you are using the German Rail website, it has a place to indicate the number and age of children. It will then tell you the price of full fare and discount (Savings) fares.
It looks like, for Stuttgart to Paris, it might be children-under-15-free, even with the Dauer-Spezial-Frankreich fare, and tickets can be purchase online and home-printed.
