How to book flights found on googleflights or skyscanner directly with airlines

Good Morning, I need to book flights for our September trip to Greece for our daughters to join us. They will be flying from Tampa which has very limited flights compared to what I am used to from Boston. I found the perfect flights on the above search engines that would work for them for $1100 to $1400 (depending on the day). The flights are going out on Air Canada and returning United. However, when I go to the AC & UA flights, I cannot find the flights for the 2nd airline. On the AC site I cannot find the UA flight and on the UA site I cannot find the AC flight. If I try to book each with the corresponding airline as one way tickets, the flight cost then jumps to around $2600 each.

I really prefer to book directly with the airlines. Is there a trick I am missing? I am asking to see "all airlines" and also tried searching by connecting city to no avail.

Thank you,
Joann

When you have found the flight you want on Google Flights, have you tried clicking on their "Book with xyz airline"? it ususally not only works, but I have seen where it works and you cannot get that combination going to xyz airline directly.

Thank you both so much! I’ll do that tonight when I get home from work. I’ve always used these sites for research but never explored any further re the booking process.

Thanks again for your help!

Adding that it pays to log into the airline website first, then when you role over from Google Flights you are all set to book. Frogging around it is United.com that offers the fare.

I am pretty sure Skyscanner does not work this way and I would avoid, unless you are sure that you are rolling over to an airline website. Skyscanner shows more airlines than google flights however.

As the others said, Google Flights will link you to the correct airline to book - just click on the flight you want. Also, if you are booking an open jaw tickets, it's a whole lot easier (and usually cheaper) to do it on Google. Just make sure at the top to choose "Multi-city" rather than Round Trip or One Way.

Thank you all again for your help. Flights are booked! Now let's see if they are among the lucky few to fly without incident! I chose flights with long layovers (4 hours out, 3.5 return) hoping that helps. They both just started new jobs, which is why we are booking so late. I have had my flights booked for months. I find waiting to the end too stressful.

Now I need to re-arrange hotels for the 2nd half of the trip and it's not looking good. Wish me luck!

Just booked our flights on Sky Scanner and I selected book directly with the airline and it works like a charm!

Skyscanner typically supplies links to airlines and to agencies, usually indicating the possible price. Click the link and proceed; at that point it is out of Skyscanner's hands.
It is my impression (not proof) that Skyscanner finds more European budget airlines. For trans-ocean I would cross-check with North American search agencies.
