I'm planning my first trip to Europe and am not quite sure how this whole Eurail pass thing works. I'm traveling for three weeks and I think that getting a select pass for 4 countries would be best (though I could be totally wrong). I'm just wondering how many days I need to get. I'm flying into Frankfurt but am staying in Munich. From Munich I'm going to Salzburg, to Vienna via Mauthausen/Melk, to Venice on the night train, to Florence with a day trip to Tuscany, to Lausanne on the night train, to Interlaken/Lauterbrunnen on the Golden Pass, and finally to Zurik.
A side question would be--when it says that you get a discount on the Golden Pass from Lausann to Interlaken, does that take a day off your Eurail pass?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me!
Check out Rick Steves web site home page and click on "Railpasses" and see that information. You may also want to call his office in Edmonds, WA.
Based on my counting, a Eurail Select Pass for Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany with 6+1 days would be fine.
Free trips cost a day on your rail pass; discounts do not.
Awesome, thanks!
Munich to Salzburg you can buy a Bayern/Barvarian ticket as it is cheaper than a Rail Pass Day for 2 or more people traveling together.
