How is Air Transat?

Hi all,

Air Transat is running some deals from LAX to Europe during the time period we wish to travel. I have never heard of them. Had anyone had much experience with this Canadian airline?

Thanks in advance!

I've flown with them before and am booked again this June.

I've never had a problem with them. I like that the various fares are clearly explained.

Where would you connect?

Is it one leg from Montreal to your destination Europe? I notice they have some "connect air" flights within Europe. I think those are on Easy Jet.

I think if the flight suits your schedule and budget, go for it.

Ask at Flyertalk.

Also keep in mind that based on the name of the airline, it's probably little more than a glorified charter and isn't going to have anything in the way of backup if a plane is broken or delayed or lost. And it probably doesn't play well with other airlines

Air Transat is a reasonably well respected Canadian airline that mostly flies in summer or peak seasons to Europe.
I wouldn't be worried about booking with them.
I haven't flown them for years, but friends have with no problems.
The reviews are mixed, however.
They likely would not have a "next flight" that day or even the next day in the event of a delay.

What is an American hat? I wouldn't call it a glorified charter line, and it would appear to "play well with others" in that they are a Star Alliance member. It's the 3rd largest scheduled airline in Canada, although a fair share of its winter flights are vacation packages. However, it is a smaller line than either Air Canada or Westjet, so won't have the frequency of flights to many destinations that larger lines have.

I think the Montreal to Paris flight runs daily.

Hmmm..... reminds me a bit of French Bee or Norse. A transatlantic Southwest!?

I travelled with Air Transat many years ago and the service was good from what I remember. It's not surprising that they have daily flights from Montreal to France, as I'm sure there's lots of demand.

An update to my previous post. We arrived today, having flown non stop from Toronto to Venice. Service was very good -- lots of flight attendants buzzing about. They were no nonsense on safety (bags under seats, etc), but friendly too. The plane was full and they asked for people to volunteer to gate check. I didn't see anyone offer to gate check and I didn't see them force anyone. The FA by us said she had 27 years seniority and could stick close to home but chooses to continue visiting Europe whenever she can.

We left the gate on time but were a bit late getting into the air. Took awhile taxiing.

Food was airline quality (not great).

Very pleasant overall, no hesitation to book again. The only negative was the worst red wine I've ever had in my life, and believe me I've drank some plonk in my time.

Thanks for reporting back on your experiences with Air Transat. They seem to be very close to what I remember, although I thought the food was reasonably good on my flight.

Another update. We flew home today - Zagreb to Toronto. Believe it or not we arrived fifteen minutes early! It wasn't full - about 100 empty seats. I hope they don't cancel the route. Maybe it will pick up in the summer.

Really positive experience.

I’ve flown Air Transat to Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Paris. Never a problem. If you happen to be able to upgrade the their “first class”, nice roomy seats and great service. Good service in the back as well. Wouldn’t hesitate to book them again.
