How far out can you buy tickets for OBB Nighttrain?

According to seat61, I should be able to buy tickets up to 180 days out, but it’s now 4 months out til the date I’m wanting and it still shows Nightjet tickets unavailable for the route I’m wanting to purchase?

I did see something on the seat61 website about timetable changes in June - does that mean the tickets will become available in mid-June?

If anyone has any experience with this it’s be much appreciated :) thank you!

Where are going to and from where?
I was just able to get to the payment page for the Nightjet from Salzburg to Venice for September 4 for 2 people in a double sleeping compartment for 248 EUR.

Thanks Sam,

Am trying to go from Zurich to Zagreb on 30-31 August.

I got hopeful for a moment after seeing your reply but nope, it still says ticket unavailable :(

I see that the two weeks between 8/16 and 9/2 are currently not open for booking, so I'd try again in a week or two. I've not seen any news or reason to suspect otherwise. This may be a popular travel period, although I think most Europeans would be going the opposite direction, if they go to Croatia for August beach holidays.

Thanks Laura ,

Yes it’s very strange? I’ve been checking nearly daily since February, so I’m sure the entire train didn’t book out for that one day in less than an hour.

Still it’s a bit frustrating, I’d like to get it sorted so I didn’t have to worry about it!

You can contact them by phone or email. The contact info is on the OBB website.
I would send them an email giving train number, date, departure/arrival cities and number of people along with the accomodation you want to book.
I didn't see any notes about construction or maintenance on the route, but they will be able to tell you what is going on and when you can book.

Yes I’ve sent them an email now - I had already emailed them a couple months ago and never heard back but maybe this time they’ll reply.

It’s so strange :/

Too nerve-racking —- tickets being available from September dates (and only that two week window being unavailable) makes me worry that there could be some kind of maintenance planned.

And so - just like that - I now have a whirlwind visit to Germany added to my trip. Basically I catch the train to Munich instead, have a few hours to grab some dinner and a beer, then catch an overnight train at midnight to end up in Zagreb the next morning.

Gonna be one hell of a day but hopefully I get enough sleep on the train (I paid the extra to get a cabin to myself).

Thanks all for your help!

Definitely made the right decision- I finally heard back from OBB this afternoon:

“Dear Debbie Ann, from August 17th to October 3rd are construction works between Ötztal and Bludenz. Since the planning has not yet been completed, whether the night trains in the rail replacement traffic out, or be redirected, the booking release has not yet taken place. Please try again at regular intervals. Kind regards, Mario from ÖBB Facebook Team”

Flying would likely be cheaper and definitely faster.

Flights were much more expensive, and then I’d have to book accomodation too.

I’m happy, I get to check out the Munich beer halls for a few hours :)
