How early to arrive JFK for day flight to Heathrow?

Hi all,

We are on the day flight from JFK to LHR which leaves on a Saturday at 8:00am.

We are staying at the Radisson by JFK which has a shuttle bus starting at 5:30am. According to Google Maps it's an 8-minute ride to terminal 4, where we'll be departing. Assuming we arrive by 5:45am, is this enough time to make the 8:00 flight or should we take a taxi earlier, and if so, how much earlier?

Thanks!

Arriving at JFK’s terminal 4 at 6:00 AM for an 8:00 AM Delta international flight is perfect timing. Checkin online 24 hours in advance if available. You’ll still need to be processed at the airport. Checked bags need to be deposited according to Delta’s guidelines.

If you are using an airline other than Delta and it’s partners I don’t know their requirements.

We took Norwegian JFK to LHR. Which airline are you flying? That shuttle is early enough. We stayed at the TWA Hotel which was terrific. We walked to airport transportation system.

Should be enough time.

Love Virgin Airlines.

Enjoy your flight to LHR.

If you don't have checked bags and can get your boarding pass before arriving at the airport, then two hours is plenty of time.

If you need to drop off bags, then find out what time the Virgin counter opens. It doesn't pay to get there any earlier.

Frank II, you have a good point. Every time I show up just before the counter opens I find out that 2/3rds of the other customers were already in line. I hate lines, I detest lines, I would rather eat sushi than wait in an airline checkin counter line. I could care less about traveling light, but the lines have forced me to go carryon only when ever it is possible. I take my boardng pass, on my phone, and walk through security and skip the line. And skip the only place I have ever had a carryon weighed (the ticket counter) and that one time was Virgin and that one time my bag was a kilo over and my companion was a kilo under. "cant we just pretend that together we are legal?" Nope, off to the back of the line to open bags and throw clothes back and forth not knowing if it was too much or not enough wiht no scale. Again, the long wait in line. No she was a little too heavy. After a brief "discussion" in wich I described how i would stuff her bras in my pants pockets if necessary before I go in line a third time, and a tag indicating we were not criminals was put on our carryons and we were on our way.

If you already have your boarding pass and are not checking any bags, 5:45 AM is fine. If you are checking luggage, contact Virgin to find out when their counter opens.

Who wouldn’t?
