My family and I are traveling from London to Paris the end of July and we would like to go from London to Portsmouth, take a ferry, rent a car in Cherbourg, tour the D-Day beaches, and then drive into Paris that evening. This part of the trip has me stumped. I appreciate any help on planning.
Your cheapest ways to get from London to Portsmouth Harbour are by either National Express coach (www.nationalexpress.com) or Megabus (www.megabus.com/uk). The standard National Express fare is £14.30, but funfares booked well in advance can be as low as £3. Megabus fares can be as low as £1.
National Rail has frequent trains from Waterloo Station to Portsmouth. It takes 1-1 1/2 hours, depending. Check your ferry website for info regarding how/where to meet your ferry.
For train timetables and fares use the Journey Planner at www.nationalrail.co.uk.
Thank you...your information will help me a great deal.
