How do I get from Munich Airport to Bahnhofplatz Central Train Station?

Please help me get from Munich Airport to the Train Station/Bahnhofplatz in front of department store KARSTADT. This is where our meeting point for our 2hr Vienna Evening Tour will take place. Due to our airplane overlay we only have a few hours to see the city and I don't want us getting lost and waste what little time we have available to sight see Munich, Germany. Since I think the train S-Bahn S1 & S8 connects from the airport it might be cheaper or smarter for the 4 of us rather than taking a cab/taxi or bus to get there, right???

Not sure why a 2 hr tour of Vienna starts in Munich, but whatever ... Last time I looked (years ago), a taxi from the airport to downtown Munich cost over 50€, each way. A Gesamtnetz Partner Tageskarte (day pass for the entire MVV network for up to 5 people) will cost you 20,40€ and cover your trip by S1 or S8 from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof (main station) and back. The trip takes about 40 minutes each way without any potential traffic delays that you would have with a taxi or bus. The S1 takes a few minutes longer, but whichever train is leaving next will get you to the Hbf first. Buying RT tickets for the bus would cost 68€ for four adults.

Hi. Good place to eat...the Karstadt in front of the Bahnhofsvorplatz. Take the "Lufthansa Airport Bus" (these words appear on the side of the bus). It stops on Arnuftstraße in front of the taxi stand. Go through the train station to the opposite side to the Bayerstraße exit. Go down the stairs into the underground passage. You can access the Karstadt dept store from the underground passage. I think it's the Dachauerstraße exit. The Karstadt building is big, can't miss it. What you're describing seems to be on Dachauerstraße across the street from a Pension. It's an area criss crossed with tram lines.

MaryC, The S-Bahn is the easiest and quickest method for getting from the airport to the Munich Hbf. Between the S1 and S8, there are frequent departures and they aren't affected by traffic, so no delays there. As I recall, Lee has a section on his website that describes the trip from MUC to the Hbf, complete with photos. Hopefully he'll re-visit this Thread and can provide the link. How long is your layover at MUC? Be sure to leave enough time to both get into the city for your tour, and then back to the airport, as it would be "unfortunate" to miss your next flight. Happy travels!

Hi, The Hop On Hop Off tour bus boards across the street from the Pension Locarno. I had a hunch that was what you were asking. There are sometimes Hop On Hop Off buses at that stop back to back.

I think this page is the one to which Ken referred. The picture of the ticket machine was taken a few years ago. I believe they are using the newer touchscreen Bahn automats now. Prices have also gone up a little.

Well, our plane arrives at Munich at 7:35am and departs at 3:30pm but I'm not sure how long it would take to leave the airport(with no luggages)and out to where the Lufthansa Buses are at and get on it to that meeting point across Kardstadt and vice versa. What time is recommended that should we be back to the airport in a layover? I mean shouldn't the process be shorter since no luggages are with us and that it is already on the plane? We changed the Munich Hop on Hop off to the 2hrs Grand Tour in order to see a bit more and to taste & see a whole new experience of the local German culture. Thanks everyone for all your input...it has been very helpful to us traveling gals! :)
