Houston to Ljubljana or Zagreb and return from Dubrovnik

Any suggestions on the easiest way to get from Houston to Ljubljana or Zagreb? Thinking about taking the 14 Day Best of the Adriatic tour next May (Starts in Ljubljana and ends in Dubrovnik). Thanks.

Probably direct to Frankfurt and onwards from there. Munich or Vienna should also work. I'm guessing that Lufthansa has a direct flight to FRA from where you can either go on Lufthansa or Adria to Ljubljana. Also check where CO flies to in Europe and connect onwards from there. You may be able to get a one stop in Paris.

Your best bet is to check out either the Sky team or the Star Alliance websites - sticking with one of the global air alliances would get you there and back hopefully seamlessly.

Last year going from FRA to DBV, we had to either go via Vienna on Austrian or via Zagreb on Croatia. Note this was on award tickets. You probably have lots of possibilities - you need to tell us more - do you care what airline you fly or not? Since leaving from Houston, do you care to be on Continental?

I agree with those who suggest flying into and out of Frankfurt. Air fares are usually cheaper. You can take the train from the basement of the air terminal at Frankfurt to Ljubljana.

You can buy RR tickets at that station. You may have to change trains; but that is quite common in Europe.

Thanks for the reply. I would certainly like to get the Continental miles, but it's not a must. Lufthansa through Frankfurt does look like the easiest at this point.

Hi Sharon,

I just want to add a quick note that the Lufthansa flight is (I believe) actually operated by Air Croatia.

That said, when we flew into Dubrovnik and out of Zagreb last March, the best airfare deal we got was flying round trip into/out of Frankfurt and then booking a totally separate ticket on Expedia.com for the Germany/Croatia legs. The fare quoted on Expedia was far less than the Lufthansa site AND the Air Croatia site directly. Might be worth checking out, and something else we discovered is Air Croatia has an 800 number that connects you to US agents if you needed to call them for any reason (we got it from the Expedia people after experiencing a slight bump in our travel plans).

Good luck!
