Hour layover

We are flying Air France to Paris (CDG) and connecting on an Al Italia flight to Rome, we have an hour between flights; is this enough time to make the connection from Terminal 2E to 2F and will customs/immigration be at CDG or at(FCO)in Rome?

You will go through immigration in Paris and customs in Rome. Upon arrival you will go through immigration, go through security again, and then get to your gate. Do you think you can do all that in an hour?

If you are flying on a single ticket the issuing airline will typically book you on the next available flight if you miss your connection. If your flight to Paris arrives on time, one hour is tight but doable. You will have to go through passport control and another security check in Paris. 2E to 2F is not a difficult transfer at CDG.

In May we flew from Seattle to Paris then on to Istanbul all on Air France. We had 90 minutes between scheduled arrival in Paris and departure for Istanbul. We have been thru the Paris airport several time so we thought we could do it in 90 minutes. However, the shuttle bus drove around and around and around, something that we had never seen before. So when we got the the departure terminal, there was another security screening to go thru with the usual long line. We ended up running to our gate and the only way we made it was that our flight outbound had been delayed. Never again 90 minutes.

Based on experience that is a tight connection at CDG. It really depends on if your flight is running late. Mine was running late so I missed the flight and we had a bit more time than 1 hour. Air France was really great about putting us on the next few flights but I don't know about Alitalia. I was with a tour group and those of us that were on the later flights really got to know each other waiting in the airport. The flight originated out of JFK and took off late. Not sure about customs. It was such a mess that I never got my passport stamped but remember when I got to Rome it was like a domestic flight so I think customs is at the first European city you land. Everyone that missed the connecting flight were escorted thru the airport because the airline seemed to know how many passengers had missed the connecting flight.

Jerry, good luck with that timetable. I have a two-hour layover at CDG to catch a connecting flight at CDG to Luxembourg. Hopefully, that will be enough time. Like you, I have only a one-hour layover between flights on the return trip, but that is in Amsterdam, and I am counting on Dutch efficiency instead of the maddening Gaelic arrogance/indifference of Paris airport personnel (based on personal experience, not stereotypes).

With the tight connection and help line info I received we are opting instead to go through Heathrow on BA, at least if we get hung up we can communicate.
