Hotels near Rome, transportation to airport at 4 a.m.?

My wife and I are flying out of Rome, Italy in early May, from Leonardo DiVinci airport, at 6:15 a.m., which means we need to be there around 4 a.m.

Are there any hotels close by that are relatively affordable? And how difficult will it be to catch a taxi at that time of the morning. I don't think hotel shuttles will be operating at that time in the morning.

None of your options are cheap. Hotels near the airport are pretty expensive and still leave you needing an expensive taxi ride to the terminal. I believe there is a Hilton actually at the airport but have heard it's ~$300/night. You can stay in your Rome hotel that last night (assuming you're staying in Rome in the day(s) previous to your departure) and ask the hotel to arrange for a taxi. Or there is Rome Airport Shuttle, www.airportshuttle.itHere's a prior discussion of this question here last month: click

Thanks Kent. Judging from previous discussion of this, it sounds like we're not the first ones to deal with this issue.

I like to stay in Lido di Ostia. It is close to Fumincino and much cheaper then the airport hotels. I think I paid about 60 euros last summer. I had a rental car so it was easy, but there is transportation. I stayed at the Hotel Sirenetta. It is on the sea front and there are many nice and inexpensive restaurants. The train from Central Rome to Fumincino stops running and a taxi to the airport can be over 100 euro. With a reservation in advance you can reserve a limo for about 50 euros. I might have the name and number if you want to call for the limo. At the time you are flying, some just go out to the airport and wait. Some actually sleep in the Chapel. I prefer Lido di Ostia.
