Hotels n Rome, Italy

Hello! I going to Rome in Sept. for my 1st trip there. I need to know of great Hotels that will be central to the Vatican, Coliseum, etc. where we won't have to travel far to get to each historical spot? Thank you! Jacque`

The historical spots are spread all over town thus it's not feasible to pick one hotel that is close to all historical spots. But that is not a problem because it is fairly easy to get around the city to the historical spots. We can give you better advice about a hotel if you will give us some more information: give us an idea of your price range that you are looking for, in terms of dollars or euros per day.

This is my 1st time going so I am not sure of price. I need help there as well. I want to be in a decent hotel. It can be 3 1/2 to 4 stars. There will be four of us going. Thanks! Jacque

Jacque,
My family of four stayed at the Albergo Santa Chiara directly behind the Pantheon and loved both the hotel and the location. We walked everywhere from there - even quite a long hike to the Vatican!! It is not super cheap (doubles can range from 140 to 225 Euros depending) but they do have good family rooms and an excellent breakfast. Good Luck!

Hi Jacqueline--We stayed at the Hotel Smeraldo which is near Campo dei Fiori and really liked the hotel and the location. From there you can walk to the Vatican and to the Coliseum; you're right in the middle. We also walked to the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, and the Trevi Fountain. The area around Campo dei Fiori is very atmospheric, and there are lots of locals. Being near the campo's morning market is a plus, too. It's also convenient to a taxi stand at Largo Argentina for when you get too tired to walk.
