Hotel Selene Roma to Airport

Don't know where your hotel is but assume it is the center part of Rome. The best probably is a taxi door to door. Another option would be shuttle arranged by your hotel. And there is always the SITBUS or the Leonard Express from Termini. If it is direct international flight back to the US, there you need to leave you hotel about four hours ahead of departure. About an hour total time to airport with about three ahead for an international check-in. It it is a domestic flight connecting to another European city for your direct flight back to the US, then you can leave about an hour later. However, my mid day the airport can get busy so I would error on the plus side for time.

John, you might consider a taxi to the airport from your hotel. Taxi fares to and from the airport are fixed by law in Rome. It used to be 40E but it may have increased recently. If there are two of you and you take a taxi to the Termini train station and then take the Leonardo Express to the airport (14E each), you're close to the 40E anyway. The big plus will happen if you are departing out of Terminal 5 back to the U.S. The taxi will take you there; the Leonardo Express only goes to Terminal 3. Then, you have to take a bus shuttle to Terminal 5. Take the taxi all the way. I agree with Frank on when you should depart for the airport. Unbelieveably, it can take 3 hours to get through everything on a really busy day at Terminal 5.
