We, 2 seniors ,will be flying from Amsterdam, staying two nights then flying back to PDX. Any thoughts, tips, suggestions. Should we try to stay close to the airport, or go into town? Is transportation readily available. We will be at the end of our month long european trip. Thanks
Hi, Ed. The train station at the airport is actually right inside baggage claim/pick up. So it's very easy to get to. You do have to go down a couple of stories, but I believe there are escalators and lifts (if memory serves).
It's very short trip into downtown, and it's very easy to get a taxi or tram from the train station. Cabs/shuttles are also right there, and fairly quick, and affordable.
I think you'd enjoy staying in town! There are also a number of towns, like Haarlem, that are just as easy to get to, and not quite as frenetic as Amsterdam! :)
One hint as seniors - I would just pay for a taxi from the train station. Hollands cobble stone streets can be heck on a suitcase! Have a great trip!
