Highly recommend Monetti Taxi

We used this company in 2006 to transport to and from the airport in Rome to Positano, and for a tour of the Amalfi coast, and were so pleased that we immediately contacted them again when we decided to return to the area this October. Prices had gone up, but they were still the most reasonable service we found. Our previous driver Carmelo is no longer driving to Rome, but we made all our arrangements through his son Raffaele who was very accommodating. We were picked up as scheduled by his cousin Gianpaola, whose English was excellent. Going back to Rome, we and our bags were picked up at our Sorrento hotel, taken to Villa Oplontis and Herculaneum (both highly recommended) and then to an airport hotel for our flight on Alitalia the next day. We had heard that Alitalia was going to join the general strike scheduled for that day and were very concerned about what would happen. Raffaele was the only person we encountered who knew how to help and was willing to do so. He stopped to check with a travel agent he knew to reconfirm our flights. All went as scheduled, but we felt very happy to have Raffaele to help us cope in case of emergency. We were also glad we used Monetti because the trains did go on strike, so if we had planned to get to the airport that way the day of our flight, we would have been in trouble.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like the Monetti taxi service was more than just appropriate, but really ideal in your situation.

It really was. We had extra luggage since we were away for 3 weeks and bringing clothes to a relative in a second country. We couldn't imagine getting off the plane in what would have been the middle if the night at home, getting on the train, transferring in Naples, and then getting from the train station in Sorrento to the hotel. People who did that complained that it was very difficult and crowded, although we had no difficulty taking the train between Naples and Sorrento without bags. We had another experience with Monetti Taxi on this trip as well. We walked to dinner at the port in Sorrento and got a taxi back to the hotel. We chatted with the driver, who unusually for an Italian taximan spoke fluent English, about the hotel, when he identified that we were leaving the next day and where we going. We were flabbergasted. Turns out it was Rafaelle and Monetti Taxi really is a taxi company.
