Highly amused on British Airways

I booked on American Airlines, but one leg of the trip was on British Airways, so I got to experience their safety video. They set it up as an audition, with a comedian playing the director, and various famous British actors trying out by reciting the various parts. I recognized Michael Caine, Joanna Lumley, and Naomie Harris.

Those are such fun! Delta had a string of cute ones but they've gone back to the straight ones. Frankly I pay more attention if they are humorous or have cameo appearances.

The first time I remember coming across a 'humorous' style safety briefing was on the long gone Western Airlines. Back then it was delivered live by the attendants. I thought the FAA later may have stopped such things for airlines under their jurisdiction but I could equally be wrong.

"In the unlikely event of an emergency, oxygen masks will drop down from the panel above your head. Even if the bag doesn't inflate, rest assured oxygen is flowing. The first 10 minutes is free after that insert 25c for each subsequent 10 minutes …"

Yep, I not only paid better attention to the safety info, but was better able to shake off having gotten up at 4:00 a.m. and then having difficulty finding the bus to the airport - the video cheered me right up.

I really like the Air New Zealand ones. 6 years ago, it was the Hobbit, 4 years ago, Lord of the Rings cast + live crew, since then, swimsuit models, Antarctica, and this one from November.

I think the oxygen mask bit is clever

That is funny, the bit with the oxygen masks. We flew BA last year, and laughed at the safety video. We didn't recognize everyone, but "Mr Bean" was there, as well as several other folks whose names escape me know. Derek Jacobi, I think, was in it.

Thanks to Nick for posting the video of the first one from BA. I liked it even better than the one I saw on the plane, especially the bits with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, and Ian McKellen.

Thanks Nick. Enjoyed the humor! It's been awhile since we've seen Mr. Bean. We recall watching his films on Air New Zealand a number of years ago. It made a long flight almost enjoyable! I need a Mr. Bean "fix." I've missed him.
