Helping a friend look for flights to europe where they will live & work for a few yrs (w/ proper visa). I suggested buying a round trip flight as it was less than half the same one-way flight (and discard the return ticket). Is there any problem or penalty that an arline can charge back for "no-shows"? Id think, if nothing else, it would make someone else happy who needed a stand by seat. Ive searched this archive and noticed this is not a new idea, but wanted to see if anyone knew of any "side effects" of this cost saving trick for extended one-way travel.
In theory it's a violation of the terms of the ticket, but there not a lot the airline do to "punish" you. I've heard some tales of frequent fliers being being penalized miles for doing it too often, but if it's a one time thing, I would go for it and purchase the tickets.
I've done it before and I don't think it should be any problem.
No worries. As the earlier poster mentioned... unless you do it too often. And if you do, do not atach your FF#. It is similar to the 80's. Buying 2 RT's, w/o really taking the middle trips, just to get the lowest fare.
