I am going Scandinavia this August. I'd like to take an overnight boat ride from Helsinki to Stockholm. Any suggestions which line is better SiljaTallink or Viking? Does anyone know if there is a price difference if buying tickets in US or in Finland (same day departure)? Any input is appreciated.

First off, the scenery is much better if you travel from Stockholm to Helsinki, going in the other direction you will sleep through the entire archipelago outside of Stockholm. Viking is considered more of a "party" boat with a lot more young people taking advantage of tax-free alcohol on board. Silja has newer boats and the passengers are a bit more family oriented, so I would go with Silja. The discount flights between Stockholm & Helsinki have taken big chunk of both lines business, so boats aren't as full as they used to be. You can get better deals and free upgrades if you wait and book when you are in Helsinki.
