Helsinki my new favorite transfer airport

EES both entering and exiting was smooth and efficient. The airport is clean, bright, and easy to navigate.

I had plenty of time on this connection, but in September I will have a 45 minute connection so I decided to do the process gate to gate as directly as I could and time myself. 20 minutes. That includes passport control and additional security questions at the transfer desk.

An added bonus if you have One World Alliance Status is the Finn Air lounges are extremely nice. Full buffets, variety of seating, showers available, no crowds.

It's interesting, because Finnair built an entire business model around transferring passengers between Europe and Asia via Helsinki because in many cases it was the fastest transfer point (not totally intuitive, but e.g. the most direct route from Madrid to Osaka passes almost directly over Helsinki). Huge investments were made in a terminal to streamline connections.

Unfortunately, with Russian airspace closed to Western airlines, this model has effectively evaporated -- you don't have a relative advantage if you have to fly around Russia instead of over it -- but clearly the streamlined connections remain!
