We are considering using the train from Termini Station in Rome to get to the cruise port (Civitavecchia). Has anyone taken this train? We are concerned about how difficult it will be to get on and off the train with luggage. Having ridden the commuter trains in and out of Chicago for a number of years, on those kinds you have to move very quickly or get run over, and there wasn't any real storage space for bags. Is this how the train out to Civitavecchia is, or do they provide stowage space?
Thanks for your help!
Mary Beth, the train route from Rome Termini to Civitavecchia is quite popular. 2-3 trains an hour make this run in the morning hours from Rome. As for luggage, all trains have overhead racks to place luggage. The only struggle you will have is getting it on and off the narrow carriage stairway. The train station is three long blocks (almost a mile) from the entrance to the cruise terminal. As you walk towards the entrance, you will see what looks like a fort in the distance. That's the port entrance. Once there, there is a shuttle to the cruise ships.
