As recomended by RailEurope I purchased two tickets from Munich to Paris on the 90th day prior to departure for the best available prices. I soon received an email from RailEurope stating that the tickets could not be issued as purchased until I paid $63.00 more for one of the tickets as two tickets were not available at the discounted price, so I did. I received the tickets in the mail only to find that they were 10 seats apart from one another, which is not acceptable as I am traveling with my wife, so again I called RailEurope. I then was told I had to pay another $89.00 to reissue one different seat, so I did again, only to find that they are two solo seats near one another but not together, so I called again. Now they want $250.00 dollars more to reissue both seats as fares have gone up since my first purchase a week ago, what can I do? I feel like I'm being scammed by a reportedly legit Co., Frustrated to put it politely!
Rail Europe's fares are inflated. If it's possible to cancel your tickets and get a refund, do it. Then book with German Rail, www.bahn.de, and you'll get a much better fare. Savings fares can be as low as €39. The cheapest saving fares are probably gone for your travel date, but you shouldn't have to pay the full standard price.
No doubt it is. Can you just cancel out of the whole deal. Pay a few dollars and be done with it. Second, if you had done some reading on this board beforehand, you would have learned that RailEurope is a travel agency that selling inflated tickets primarily to North Americans. My guess is you can get cheaper tickets the day before in Munich. Tim will tell us for sure.
That is really unacceptable. You should call your CC company and cancel any charge that they have made to your card and cancel the entire transaction.
You can buy tickets directly online from www.bahn.de the German rail website. I see fare specials as low as 39Euro per person. Also, there are at least 12-15 trains a day departing for Paris from Munich. You can easily buy your tickets when you first arrive in Munich.
Hopefully, Lee from Denver can drop by and respond. He's is soooo good with the German train system.
As we speak I am on the phone with RailEurope, so far, "sorry there is nothing we can do these tickets are nonrefundable discount tickets, we don't have seating charts so we cannot determine where you will be sitting", total denial of any fault, now I'm PISSED. I purchased these about 10 days ago for 1st class travel, not cheap! can I still cancel through my credit card company?
Just an interesting note, I also just checked the de.bahn web site for the same tickets as recomended by the previous post, $240.00 less than RailEurope,"same train, same time, same class".
Lesson learned the hardway, "don't buy tickets from RailEurope anytime, anyhow, anyone" they don't give a crap about you, only your money!
Please call your CC company and alert them. Use the word fraud if you have to. If the charge has already been made, instruct them to cancel the transaction. Being non-refundable should not permit them to sell you a future ticket containing false, misleading and incorrect information - and then tell you that they really didn't have the information when they sold you the ticket. You haven't used the product or service and they should be able to cancel the transaction. Protest any charges. Offer to file a complaint if you must. I'm betting the extra charges they put you through are not listed on their website.
