We are driving around Spain, France and Italy in Aug/Sept. Pick the car up in Paris in August and drop in Nice end of September. I know thats lots of driving but we like that!. Coming from the Southern Hemisphere we try to cram in as much as possible. We will be dodging lots of big cities but we would like to go to both Barcelona and Florence on our travels. Where do you suggest we stay on the outskirts of both cities? Were thinking of travelling by bus or local train to look at the sights of both instead of driving in. We are not keen on driving in big cities so would prefer to stay in the outer suburbs or towns nearby. All help appreciated. Thanks

You may want to check Vacation Rentals By Owners (VRBO) to rent a private residence. We've had good success from their website.

Gayle, As you'll be driving in Italy, be sure that each driver has the compulsory I.D.P. and especially in Florence you'll need to avoid the dreaded Z.T.L. areas.
