Help! We made a big mistake!

We thought we could fly Ryanair Rome to Munich (or near Munich) so we already bought our RT flight to Munich. We end our trip in Rome but found out that Ryanair only gets to about 4 hours from Munich (Karlsruhe-Baden). What do you suggest is the best way to get from Rome back to Munich? We will leave Rome on Oct. 6 and our flight leaves Oct 8 out of Munich early. We should have done open jaw..too late now!

It might be too early to get fares for October on some of the discount carriers. Since you are not flying until October I don't think you need to act now.

Susan, does Ryanair promote Karlsruhe-Baden Baden as Munich airport? It's close to Strassbourg, very close to the Black Forrest, close to Heidelberg and of course close to Baden Baden and the French region of Alsace. But Munich?? Anyway, I assume your ticket wasn't that expensive anyway. Legally you're entitled to get back the taxes you paid on that ticket. Unfortunately Ryanair hides behind pretty "weird" Irish law so that you'd have to get an Irish lawyer which is gonna cost you more than the amount of money you're entitled to be reimbursed. That's how Ryanair make money. Anyway, Germanwings.com have direct flights from the real Rome airport to the real Munich airport. Tuifly.com might be able to offer something similar as well. Also since it's still very early check with lufthansa.com. But don't look for a one-way on LH, check for cheap roundtrips and simply forget about your "return" flight for that ticket...

You could still fly into Karlsruhe on the 6th, you've got that evening or all of the next day to get to Munich. I bet there is a train. It might be easier than trying to swap out and change tickets. And who knows what you might see on the way. I was supposed to stay in Eningen u.A. where I'd studied in college, but couldn't book the hotel--they were on vacation! I was really disappointed, but ended up staying in a little town close to the Stuttgart airport and having one of the best meals of my trip in a little gasthof next door.

Checked on kayak.com and they show one way Rome to Munich on Air Berlin for $133. Flight is 3.5 hours. Altalia has a shorter flight but it only comes up on a RT search.

Hope this helps.

No, Ryanair did not promote that Karlsruhe-Baden was near Munich..that was our own mistake! We didn't buy the ticket so we can now do whatever is best. I just wish we hadn't put ourselves in the position of having to get from Rome to Munich. Open jaw into Munich and out of Rome would have been better. So..now we need to get to back for our flight home. I'll check the airlines as you suggested.

Thank you so much for all the help! I really feel a lot better about it now and I think I'll just wait and book a flight closer to the time.

Air One flies between Rome and Munich (Monaco di Barvaria) multiple times daily, as they provide feeder service for Lufthansa. It's a really nice Italian airline, and fares are usually reasonable if purchased in advance through their website www.flyairone.it/en or by calling their reservation center in Italy. They don't charge a premium for one-way flights. Current prices for Oct 6 or 7 are very high, but they run some great specials. Keep checking. You can also purchase tickets for Air One flights by calling Lufthansa's 800 reservation number in US, but they'll probably charge more than if you purchase directly. If airfares stay too high, there's an overnight train from Venice to Munich that arrives early.

There is a night train from Rome to Munich, at least there was one in 2000 when I took it. You get on the train in Rome around 9 or 10 PM and wake up in Munich. It's worth checking into.
