My daughter is adopting 2 rescue kittens. Unfortunately the cats are in Innsbruck and we are in Amsterdam. She asked me to go along, and it sounded like fun. I love Innsbruck. It would be a quick trip, 3 days total.
And that's when I ran into a brick wall. I've been working on this for 2 hours, using every site I can think of.
The only direct light from Amsterdam (Transavia) goes only 2x a week ( we are under a time constraint). We can't pick the kittens up until after Aug 19. So I thought we fly on the 19th. Not available. So I thought we'd take the train down. I'm coming up with nothing but convoluted, expensive routes by train.
Then I thought, oh what the heck, we'll train it down and fly back on Aug 21. But wait, Transavia won't let me book a one way from Innsbruck to Amsterdam. I can book a round trip, Amsterdam-Innsbruck-Amsterdam. The site just stops when I hit the "buy ticket" tab for a one way. The flight is there, but I can't get any further.
So if anyone can add any insight, or alternatives, I would appreciate.
The kittens do have all their travel papers. The Pet Passport. And they can go in the cabin on Transavia. I checked.
Not sure what you count as convoluted and expensive but there is a direct overnight train between Amsterdam and Innsbruck which runs daily (nightly?).
Thank you. I'll check that out.
www.nightjet.com has all the information. The man in Seat 61 also mentiones the train, as well as the daytime options https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Amsterdam.htm#Amsterdam-Austria
Book from NS international or ÖBB.
